Opal is not a gemstone that we often feature. Though I appreciate its beauty, an Opal just never made it into our inventory. Until, that is, our good friend in Thailand Emailed me one day with photographs of his collection of Ethiopian Chocolate Opals. Oh my goodness!
We spent days drooling over the selection and finally made a decision. The stone we chose is amazing in every way. He described her as “fickle” and we soon came to agree with him. She changes her look constantly and without warning. This is a gem who arrogantly and without hesitation chose her own design. She never lost her sense of humor, though, and when I took the finished piece to be photographed she simply refused to show her beautiful colors. Finally, when we were at our wits end, marvelous flashes of orange, red and green burst through. We swear we could hear her laughing….
