I am not sure about ordering jewelry from a website. What if I don’t like the item after I receive it?
That is a legitimate concern! Things often don’t look like the picture you saw when you ordered them. Here is what we try to do to address that problem: We do not photo shop our jewelry pictures, we want you to see the stones the way they really look. Well, okay, if there is one of those pesky hairs or pieces of lint on the stone we may take it out with photo shop. That is usually after several hours of a photo shoot and then someone spots the annoying hair……. In addition to carat size we put in mm size. Often, the major reason for disappointment is that the actual piece is smaller than expected. Unless you are reading our fun facts, you may not be aware that a 1 carat sapphire is far smaller than a 1 carat diamond. We are now showing some of our designs on models so that you can see how they look on a person, with a dress etc. We specify what the stone is set in, white gold, yellow gold, rose gold etc. Sometimes a white gold piece can look like yellow gold in a photograph due to reflections and surrounding colors. Above all, if you don’t like what you have ordered, SEND IT BACK. Within 7 days please. We want you to be happy. We will cheerfully offer a refund. We would appreciate knowing the reason for return but it is not necessary.
What about sizes? Rings, necklaces, even bracelets. What if I order something and it does not fit?
Yes indeed, that can be very frustrating and disappointing. You can refer to our sizing charts (click here for ring sizing) (click here for necklace sizing) We can size the item for you here or you can have your own jeweler size it. There may be a minimal fee but we will always inform you in advance. What we are doing with many of our chains and necklaces is putting an optional link in so you have two sizing choices. That also works well if you simply want to change the length to fit a dress or top.
Okay, you present your stones and say they are ‘”rare and unusual”. How do I know that is true? Maybe they are actually glass. Maybe they are found in the thousands on every street corner. Can I trust you?
Sadly, that is a relevant question today, and the answers are not always easy. M.K. Designs has an ISG Registered Gemologist, a jeweler and his wife with 20 plus years experience and a master degree in education and ISG student on its team. We use only stone vendors that we are familiar with and that have the credentials that we require. Many of our vendors are part of our ISG (International School of Gemology) community. In addition, every stone we purchase is weighed ,measured and tested using specific gravity, refractive index, dichroscope, polaroscope, spectroscope, Chelsea filter, loop examination, immersion cell study, microscope examination and study, fluorescence (when applicable) and any other test we deem necessary to establish the authenticity of the stone. We are very fortunate to have a graduate and student of the International School of Gemology on our team. If we have a questionable stone, we do not hesitate to send it on for further examination, which may include use of the Ramen microscope and other sophisticated instruments. Having said all of that, there are undisclosed treatments occurring. Our ISG president, Robert James, is in the forefront of some of these issues and you can join the ISG forums board to learn more. www.yourgemologist.com If you want knowledge about the rarity of a stone, read our fun facts and our newsletter. Need more information? We will send you links! So, a long answer to a short question. Yes, you can trust us. However; if you have problems with any stone that you have purchased, we urge you to contact us. If we cannot answer your concerns, we will always cheerfully refund your purchase.
What about price? How do I know I am “getting what I pay for”?
Now that is an easy question. Go on line, check out your local jewelry stores. You will find that our prices are not only competitive; they are better! Our stones are unique, our designs are one of a kind. We are confident that you will not find better prices for the quality and uniqueness of our designs anywhere!
Times are kind of tough, but I love your jewelry. Can I make payments?
Why, yes you can! We like the old- fashioned layaway plans. Choose your piece, put down 20% and pay the rest when you can. No interest, reasonable time restrictions. When you make the final payment, you get your jewelry. Can it be any easier?
