Many Gemstones date back centuries while some are fairly recent discoveries. Each has its own fascinating story which adds to the delight and pleasure of having one for your very own!
Diamonds date back about 3000 years to the first recorded discovery in India, but my favorite myth tells of Valleys of Diamonds protected by snakes!
Pearls have always been associated with love and there are many legends that reflect this. Picture this, according to one myth, a Pearl is formed when the Moon bathes in the ocean and its light attracts oysters to the surface. It then impregnates them with dew, which becomes a Pearl.
MK Designs specializes in color changing gemstones and Alexandrite is the “Queen” of all color changing stones. This amazing gem was discovered by miners in Russia’s Ural Mountains in 1830, on the birthday day of Prince Alexander II. One miner gathered some stones which he thought were Emeralds, yet when he took them back to the camp at the end of the day, they shone bright red in the light of the campfire. The next morning, they were green again. A marvelous new Gemstone had been discovered!
Today, the majority of Alexandrite gems are less than one carat and their price per carat is far more expensive than a Diamond.
Colored Gemstones, Diamonds and Pearls are captivating. Delving into their origins, legends and myths add an element of delicious appreciation for these magical, mystical treasures, don’t you agree?
